Barnard’s star is a red dwarf about six light-years away from our sun and six light-years away from Earth. It is considered the closest single star and second closest stellar system to us, following Alpha Centauri’s three-star group. It is too dim to be seen with the naked eye despite being so close to us, but can be observed with telescopes .

This rocky planet, discovered with the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile, is smaller than Earth, and flies around its tiny cool star every three days. Barnard's star is six light-years away from us, in the constellation Ophiuchus. The only closer stars are the trio that make up the Alpha Centauri system.

The world—which orbits Barnard's Star, just six light-years from us—has a year that lasts barely three Earth days.
